Welcome to The Mountains Men's Retreat. This overnight trip is designed to give men (and their son or sons 3rd grade and up) an opportunity to get away with other Christ following men to enjoy time together in the Ozark Mountains and the Buffalo National River Wilderness. This info sheet will cover a few details to point you in the right direction for this trip April 29 & 30.
Location: We meet on Friday night by 7:30 for a meal in the main lodge of the Rock Haven Bible Camp located a few miles off of Hwy 65 from Western Grove. Rock Haven is a true blue old style church camp. We will be able to stay in rooms in the lodge. There are several beds in a room with a mix of single and bunk beds. You will need to bring your own bed roll, pillow, towel, and toiletries. Bathrooms are at the end of the hall and shared (That means it's a good place to practice courtesy).
We will stay at the camp that night with a meal served. Afterwards there will be plenty of time for a campfire on the grounds with marshmallows. There will also be some pool tables and other games on the lower level where our rooms are located. We will be fed breakfast the next morning to fuel us for Saturday's activities.
Activities: In addition to eating (always a favorite), campfire, and games we will have some options for us on Saturday before heading home. Close by is the Buffalo River that offers great floating (especially in the spring of the year). There are also many hiking trails that offer amazing views and beautiful waterfalls. We can do one or the other or combine the two into a float with a hike thrown in on the way down river.
Hemmed in Hollow is the tallest waterfall between the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains. At 250 ft it's a sight to behold. The easiest hike to it is from the river when floating. The Lost Valley Trail is also a popular trek offering some great views and caves (more like overhangs but still very nice).
If you would like to be a part of The Mountains Men's Retreat you will need to get your name in for reservations. Be sure to include your son(s) if he/they will also be going.
Cost: $40 covers lodging, 3 meals including a sack lunch to carry with you on Saturday, and more fun than you can stand. If floating is an option you take that will be extra. Everything else is free!
